FOOD POISONING AND HOW TO PREVENT IT.

Have you ever suffered from food poisoning?
Food poisoning is a very common ill-health, it is a situation when one eats a contaminated food ,or in some cases food that wasn't prepared in a sanitary environment.  Food poisoning can be life threatening if not treated immediately, especially when the patient is dehydrated.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates approximately 48 million people become ill from food-related diseases each year resulting in 128,000 hospitalizations, and 3,000 deaths.
People infected with food-borne organisms may be symptom-free or may have symptoms ranging from mild intestinal discomfort to severe dehydration and bloody diarrhea. Depending on the type of infection, people can even die as a result of food poisoning. This is a very serious illness ohhh please be guided.
I was so unfortunate to be affected by this sometime last week, it was horrible experience, my sister in-law prepared a  local delicacy, it was a sauce made with potash which can be taken with either fried yam, roasted yam and fried plantain. It was very delicious  and I was pleased that I got to try a new food, but to my surprise my system didn't find it funny.

There are common symptoms that indicates food poisoning these are;

  • vomiting,
  • diarrhea,
  • cramping and abdominal pain.

Treatment for food poisoning focuses on keeping the affected person well hydrated.
Most cases of food poisoning resolve on their own, but if it persist see your doctor for further investigations. Mine didn't resolve on its own, I had to take some medication before I got my self.
Prevention is ultimately the key which totally depends upon keeping food preparation areas clean, proper hand washing, and cooking foods thoroughly.
